There are about 15 players in the pending list. Players from other clubs who are interested to join us and also youth players from the secondary schools and Junior College. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my members for actively training our youths and preparing them to take over the club. My next target for Shiok is to have a membership of 60 players in 3 years time, with more than 1/3 of the members age between 18-25.
There have been rumours that clubs are actively poaching players again. My call is that if you have the proper system and structure to develop your players, there is no need to poach players. This is a quick fix and in systems thinking, quick fixes will backfire in the long run.
If you want to be part of the national team, there is no other club that can develop you holistically as a player. You can also experience training in a demanding yet fun environment. Games concept are taught together with skills training. It is important to understand the game before you can execute your skills.
Off the field interactions are as important as on field. Foot-reflex, massage session, dinners and other gatherings such as our pre-tournament gathering, annual chalet and strategy discussion are some of our activities planned by our welfare committee.
If you have what it takes to join the Shiok family, please e-mail me @ sweenee2002@yahoo.com or Mumba @ mumba_me@yahoo.com.sg You can join us for a non-obligation training session to feel the intensity for yourself.
Disc In! The Games Concept Approach to Teaching Ultimate Frisbee
"Disc In!" was launched on the 3rd of November 2007 during the National Sports Conference. This book is supported by the Singapore Physical Education Association (SPEA) and Icon books and multimedia pte ltd.
Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Minister for Education and Second Minister for Finance has kindly written the foreword to support this book.
This book aims to share best practices with physical educators, specialist, coaches and players. It also emplifies how teachers can contribute to ongoing research in sports and other fields.
This book is also written to increase the awareness of Ultimate Frisbee in Singapore.
Besides the description of skills involved in the game, you will also understand the skill developmental process (systematic flow chart), tactical problems, cutting for disc and handling framework. You will also find 12 lesson plans for teaching Ultimate Frisbee at the back of the book!
What can you do with this book? You can read it, keep it, share it, recommend it, but do not PHOTOCOPY it!
Each book cost $25 and proceeds from this book will cover the publishing cost and support SPEA in future events to increase the status of Physical Education in Singapore. Please support me even if you feel that you already know a lot about Ultimate. You might find something interesting.
If you would like to have a copy of this book, please e-mail me at discin@gmail.com to order.
